Questions and answers

Who can use Gengigel?

According to the manufacturer there are no known contraindications or side effects for the products that contain hyaluronic acid only, and children, pregnant women and older people can use them. The Perio line also contains chlorhexidine; ask your dentist before using it. Follow the instructions that come with each product.

What is the difference between the lines?

Gengigel is the core line for the gums: daily care, inflammation and bleeding. Forte has four times the hyaluronic acid and is the line for mouth ulcers and sores, and for the period after procedures where plaque is not a concern. Perio combines hyaluronic acid with chlorhexidine and suits the period after surgery when the area is hard to brush.

Can Forte and First Aid be used with chlorhexidine?

Yes. The Forte products and First Aid can be used together with any chlorhexidine product. The two do different jobs: chlorhexidine keeps plaque in check, while the hyaluronic acid speeds healing and reduces pain.

Are the products medical devices?

Most are. The gels, sprays and rinses in the Gengigel and Forte lines are medical devices in class IIa or IIb. The toothpaste and the Perio line are cosmetic products.

When should I use it?

As needed, or as your dentist advises. Many people find it helps to use it about half an hour before a meal so eating is more comfortable. Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after use.

How long can I use it for?

For long-standing problems Gengigel can be used long term. If you do not know what is causing your symptoms, book a visit with a dentist to find the cause.

Does it stain teeth?

The products that contain hyaluronic acid only do not stain teeth. Chlorhexidine, which is in the Perio line, can discolour teeth with long use; the Perio products include a complex (ACC) intended to reduce this.

Does Gengigel replace brushing?

No. Good cleaning is always the foundation. Gengigel is an addition that helps the gums and the lining of the mouth recover.
